Corner mounting a security camera: brackets and tips

A building corner is prime real estate for a camera: one unit covers two walls and the approach to both, and the height keeps it out of reach. The problem is that a flat wall mount does not sit right on a 90-degree corner, so you need a bracket built for it, or you end up with a camera aimed at the wall it is bolted to.

What a corner mount does

A corner mount is a wedge-shaped adapter (or a plate with a 45-degree back) that bolts across the corner and gives you a flat face pointing out along the bisector. The camera, or its wall arm, then mounts to that face. Most corner adapters are designed to pair with the same wall mounts and junction boxes you would use on a flat wall, so think of the corner piece as an addition, not a replacement.

Getting it clean

1. The corner decides the bracket, the camera decides the box. You pick the corner adapter for the wall geometry, but the junction box or wall arm behind it still has to match the camera. Confirm both against the camera’s datasheet.
2. Mind the load on a long stack. Corner adapter plus wall arm plus camera is a longer lever than a flush mount, so the weight math matters. Dahua’s 10 kg PFA151 exists for exactly this reason - see the load-safety guide.
3. Fixings into the corner. Corners are often the strongest part of a masonry wall but the trickiest to drill square. Use both faces of the wedge and proper anchors, not just one side.
4. Stainless outdoors. The -SUS Hikvision parts are stainless for a reason; corners catch weather from two directions.
